I grew up in Morehead City, NC, and received a Women's Basketball Scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina Charlotte. After graduation, I began my career in the airport industry at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport and later at the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas. I am proud to have become one of the country's youngest African-American female executive leaders in the airport industry.

My experience as an executive in the business, non-profit sectors, and the faith community as an ordained clergy in the United Methodist Church. These executive leadership roles and my Doctorate in Organizational Change have equipped me with the skills to build coalitions and lead effectively with results. I currently serve on boards with the City of Charlotte, the Charlotte Business Advisory Committee, and the Source of Income Ad Hoc Advisory Committee.

I have been an active Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. member for over 22 years.

My husband, Walter "Chip" Hand, Jr., is a Charlotte native, and we have two young adult children, Ashlee and Walter III. Our family has lived in South Charlotte's District 6 for over 30 years.

 I have been actively engaged in leadership roles in our communities as head coach of Carmel Middle School Girls Basketball Championship team, created Pop-Up vaccination clinics, food banks, and school Wi-Fi facilities, in the middle of the Covid Crisis, through collaborations with philanthropic, business, government, and faith communities to solve the greatest problems and celebrate with our communities.

It is a privilege to serve in communities and the greater city. Service is part of my family's legacy. I remain committed to serving "Together, working HAND in Hand for a stronger Charlotte."
